Ceramic Apple Pie :) - 2006/04/21 16:12
I noticed somebody posted a comment about potters not being able to cook. It took some practice, but I can now cook and throw pots! For those who want a no-fail recipe, here's my best recipe for apple pie I found at Allrecipes:
Old Fashioned Apple Pie For Potters and Ceramists Who Can't Cook
2 (9 inch) unbaked pie crusts 7 c peeled, cored and sliced apples 1 c white sugar 2 tbsp all-purpose flour 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg 2 tbsp butter
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a mixing bowl. Place mix in a pastry-lined 9 inch pie plate. Add dots of butter and reposition top crust. Don't forget to vent top crust! (I've made this mistake before!)
Bake pie for 10 min. at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Then turn oven temperature down to 275-300 degrees F (135-150 degrees C) and bake 40-50 minutes or until pie crust is a lovely shade of golden brown and apples are tender. Remove pie from oven and allow to cool. Serve this wonderful pie to friends and family.
I always serve this pie a ceramic pie plate I made myself. I don't know which I get more compliments on, the pie or the plate.
